Lesson 91: Biblical Principles for Marriage
  • God, not man, created the institution of marriage.

  • Only by making God the center of our lives, can we experience life and marriage to its fullest.

  • God has a design for marriage that He gives us in His word.

[Read Ephesians 5]

  • The Word shows here that this is not a one-sided submission but a reciprocal relationship.

  • God also has a design for love in marriage.

  • If we live by it, this can be the difference between a marriage that is successful and mutually fulfilling vs. one that over the years becomes only a co-existence with no life in it.

[Read 1 Corinthians 13]

  • These ideals cannot be perfected in this life by any person or couple.

  • But God commands us to try.

  • How well we succeed is very strongly related to the relationship each person in the marriage has with Jesus Christ.

  • Christ is the source of love and as we grow in Him, our capacity for love in marriage grows toward God’s ideal.

  • To grow in Christ attend church, read your Bible and pray regularly.

  • Given the stresses and allurements of this life it is easy to fall away.

  • But we need to persevere, because in the end, love for God, love for each other, and love for others is all that really matters.
