Lesson 95: Pleasure Versus Happiness
God wants us to experience both; He created sex and Christ made wine. But if we allow pleasure to take control in our lives, we can become slaves to it. Two glasses of wine can lead to three or four, and cause us to behave out of character, sometimes not remembering what we said or did. Beyond a reasonable two glasses or so the law of diminishing returns comes in, leading to loss of both pleasure and happiness. This can profoundly affect one’s own life and the lives of those closest to us. We can’t be enslaved by those things we have the freedom to enjoy. We need to follow Jesus and ask for his grace each day. Not doing this will cause us profound regret; however, we will never regret mastering an obsessive pleasure.
